My in-laws left on Thursday morning and after a couple of days of laundry, housecleaning, another house guest, dealing with a climber named Lane (I found her on the kitchen table yesterday...), and just getting our feet back under us, I think I'm back to the blogging world.
Kind of.
1) How do I make photos a smaller size? Most of my photos are in the 5-6 mb range, which is just too large to be uploading to blogger, facebook, or an email. I've managed to get some photos into iphoto...I just don't know what to do with them now! iphoto help doesn't seem to be much help here, either.
2) Shortcut keys. Do they exist on a Mac? I miss "control+c" for copy and "control+v" for paste, and so on. Help!
3) Any other helpful...helps...that might make this transition from PC to Mac smoother? So far I'm completely happy...just not enjoying having to learn new territory, you know?
Well, that's it for now. Until I can figure the photo thing out there won't be any photos of our vacation spots (Ephesus and Cappadocia) or of the beautiful pillowcases my stepmom made for us to match the quilt she made. So...help, help, help! Please!
A lot of the commands will still work, you just have to use command instead of control :) Enjoy Mac life
ReplyDeleteArgh, blogger apparently hates me. I just typed a long comment and it disappeared when I tried to post it. Now I get to retype the whole thing...
ReplyDeleteYeah, like "her wheat" said use command instead of control and all your usual keyboard shortcuts should work.
As for iPhoto, I opened it up and it looks like they've updated it to work similar to Lightroom, which I do use. The short answer is that to resize you select the photo(s), then go to the File menu at the top of your screen and click on Export. This brings up a box with various options and one of the options is to resize your photos. You are exporting your photos because the program isn't actually editing the original file, it's making all the changes (cropping, brightening, etc) inside the program and then applying them to the new file when you export it. This way you ever want to go back and undo the changes you've made, you can (as long as you don't toss the original file).
One thing to keep in mind is that closing a window on a Mac (cmd-w) doesn't also close the while program, you have to actually quit out of the program (cmd-q) to close it down. Many people will end up with lots of programs still running in the background, which will slow your computer down.
To change the size of the photo open it in preview and under tools click adjust size. You can choose between pixels or inches.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link with a bunch of shortcuts: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1343
But yeah, to copy (command C), to paste (command V).
Umm, not sure what else you want to know. Feel free to ask! :-)
Once you get the hang of the Mac you'll wonder why you used a PC for so long! Most of shortcut are still there but with the command key instead!
ReplyDeleteDitto to everything people said already! Also, I never resize photos for the blog - it does it automatically in blogger and you can pick small, medium or large, I think. It may be taking too long to upload in the first place though b/c of connection speed, so in that case, do like everyone has suggested!
ReplyDeleteHave fun on the new toy! Also, if you haven't learned yet - using two fingers on your keypad in a pinching together or pushing apart motion does great things for zoom in a lot of programs! :)
